Synopsis
Personalised learning goes beyond the tailoring content or pathways, and includes enabling learners to actively shape their own learning experiences. Central to this is self-regulated learning (SRL)—the process through which students set goals, manage time, monitor progress, and adapt strategies across complex and often fragmented contexts. Personalised learning is effective only when learners are supported to regulate their attention, effort, and persistence over time. In this framing, SRL becomes the engine that connects motivation with meaningful learning outcomes.
Drawing on qualitative research, survey findings, and early feedback from a small-scale field study, this presentation explores how learning intentions may translate into action through time management. We propose that attention fragmentation is a feature of modern student life, not simply a bug to eliminate. There is an opportunity to co-design systems that draw from students’ intrinsic motivation while supporting planning, re-entry, recovery, and follow-through, enabling educators to cultivate even more meaningful learning over time.
